Guest Lecture: Jon 'maddog' Hall

About the lecturer

Jon "maddog" Hall is the Executive Director of Linux International, a non-profit organization of computer vendors who wish to support and promote Linux-based operating systems. The nickname "maddog" was given to him by his students at Hartford State Technical College, where he was the Department Head of Computer Science. He now prefers to be called by this name. According to Hall, his nickname "came from a time when I had less control over my temper".

The Free Technology Academy is proud to announce the online publication of a new set of course books that correspond to the upcoming modules of the FTA programme starting in April: "Web applications development", "Economic aspects of Free Software" and "Software development".

FTA Scientific Council & Early Bird Registration extended

1. The FTA presents its Scientific Council

The Free Technology Academy is proud to announce the initial members of the Scientific Council. The Council consists of internationally recognised specialists who oversee the FTA's quality procedures. Members are selected from different continents and backgrounds, with leading experts from various universities and respected members within the Free Software and Free Knowledge communities.

FTA Educational Materials available!

We are pleased to announce that the first set of FTA educational materials is available online! Please note that these are preliminary versions of the materials. We expect to publish the final versions, with only minor changes, in a couple of days. Please read below for more information on the materials, as well as about the FTA materials in our courses and learning methodology and about the FTA in general. Enjoy!

The Free Technology Academy opens its doors to students. The registration process for the first 2 courses has already started. The courses currently open are "The concepts of Free Software and Open Standards" and "The GNU/Linux Operating System". These courses will start on January 25th, 2010. The following sections will introduce you to each of these modules.
