The Free Technology Academy is closed. Its work continues
The Free Technology Academy (FTA) was established in 2007 by a consortium of partners, to become an expandable set of online learning modules, constituting a master programme about around Free Software and Open Knowledge, accredited by participating universities. After the initial funding ended, one of consortium partners, the Free Knowledge Institute (FKI) kept the platform online with a different focus, that is offering quality online training for small groups, in P2P fashion.
Starting in 2014/2015, FKI became fully engaged in diverse projects including, but not limited to:
- the (EU-sponsored) Digital DIY research
- promotion of Commons-oriented activities and Open Business Models
- "Free as in Freedom" alternatives to Google Docs and similar services
Those commitments have made impossible for FKI first to continue to develop FTA, and eventually to even keep the smaller platform active. For this reason, the FTA project and all its courses and other activities are closed, effective July 10th, 2020. A full static copy of the website remains online, to keep the learning material available, and witness all the work done. Since the conversion process was not perfect, all the documents that could not be linked directly from website pages are available anyway, but in the FTA File Archive.
In spite of this sad decision, FKI remains very much interested in open education projects! It would be great to continue the effort we put in FTA in other forms, with new partners, let's talk about it!.
